The Crown was situated on London Road.
This pub closed in the 1980s and was demolished in the 1990s with a business centre (also called The
Crown) of rented office space built on the site. |

My parents Ron and Nesta Hodkisson
became Landlords of The Crown in 1958, taking over from Mr and Mrs Foster.
It was a busy pub with large function room to the rear. At that time cider
was 10d a pint, mild 1/- and bitter 1/2d old money. The football club held
regular dances with Bert Mombrum supplying music. He played all the rock and
roll records and accompanied with his drums. (The original disco). A dance
and buffet for 2/6d, good value. Regular customers were the station master
and porter of westerham railway station and driver of the 706 bus which
turned and waited in the station yard. Monday’s the Crown stayed open all
day to cater for the farmers on market day. They were all good fun days and
many happy memories. My parents left in 1965. Still good friends with
attractive feisty barmaid Rita mentioned in The Old House at Home. |
