The Star was situated on Milton Road.
This motorcycle shop, quite unbelievably, was once an `Ale
House` known as `The Star`. I`m sure that many will doubt this, but I was
employed in this building for a number of years, when it was a printing
works. Built as three cottages in 1885, shortly afterwards two were
converted into `The Star`. It subsequently became a Co-op grocery & butchers
s, a printing works and is now a motorcycle shop. It is now the only
building left standing in Milton Road and has recently been enlarged. This
short history was, in the last few days, confirmed by my former employer who
owned the property and, of course, had a copy of the deeds. It`s my opinion
that very few, if any, know that `The Star` existed. I have posted a similar
photo, with a more detailed history, on a couple of local Forums as I have
been unable to find any reference to this pub. Curiously, there has been no
response whatsoever. I recently spoke to an 86 year old who lived in the
area who had no knowledge of the ale house. |
