The Rose Inn was situated at 50 High Street. This was a major coaching inn in its day on the main London to Dover route.  Queen Victoria stayed here whilst still a Princess in 1825 and the pub was subsequently renamed for a while the Royal Victoria Hotel.  More recently it served as a Wimpey fast food outlet.
