Milton Arms

The Milton Arms was situated on The Wall. This pub has now been demolished.

My Grandfather, by marriage, Jack Sidney Woodhead was the licencee of this pub in 1938. When he died in 1939 the licence was given to my Grandmother, Margaret Kate Woodhead. It was a very rare occurrence for a woman on her own to be granted a licence at this time but I believe it was given owing to the breakout of the Second World War and the shortage of available men. Known as May, she kept the pub until she retired in the mid 1950's.
