The Admiral Owen was situated at
8 High Street. This pub was previously known as the Pelican and the Three
Mariners. The pub dates from around 1546 (although the building is c.15th
century) and was known as the Admiral Owen from 1832. The pub was grade-II listed
in 1950. The pub closed in March 2019. Planning application is being sought
to convert the premises to a restaurant. |

C15 timber-framed building, refronted in the C18 but preserving the
overhang of its 1st floor on bressummer and massive corner post with 3
brackets. 2 storeys, 3 windows facing the High Street, 3 windows facing
Strand Street. Stuccoed front. Corner of 1st floor sliced off, with curved
brackets supporting the corbelled eaves. Sash windows, most of the glazing
bars intact. |
