The Bridge Inn was situated on Dover Road
East.
The pub was a beautiful grade 2 listed building built in 1906.
It closed in 1995 and after that had uses including bedsits and an
old peoples home. Planning permission was submitted in about 2005 for flats
to be placed on the site. About a year later fire engulfed the building, the
damage being so severe the old pub had to be demolished and replaced by the
building in the photograph below. |
|
Prior to the
fire, it had been converted into a seven-bedroom private residence and had
been on the market as that for a year before the application for flats. The
fire damage allowed a lot of the interior to be visible and it was very sad
to see what a beautiful job had been done of converting it into a large
house with many of the original features still preserved. |
