The Century was situated on School Lane. |

I was born in Durham close, Shepway, Maidstone
in 1952, very close to the site of the pub. It was my parents first and only
home up until the death of my widowed mother in Sept 2013, They moved in
very soon after its construction with my older brother in late 1950. When I
was small school lane was a single track road with earth banks on the south
side. The site where the pub was built was a wooden construction general
store and newsagents run by the Munn family. After a few years this was
replaced by a brick-built store. This was later sold and was converted into
a pub and off licence around 1961. The Munns opened a purpose built shop at
the top end of Willington street. |
