The Empire Tavern was situated at 63 High Street. This pub was established as the Old Parr’s Head in 1797 and renamed the Empire Tavern in 1892.  In its day it was tied to Reid’s Brewery of London.  It closed in 1914 and the premises are now in restaurant use.
