Fleur De Lis

The Fleur De Lis was situated at Hugh Place. This pub closed in 1653, with the licence transferred to Preston Street. It was where the successful plot (there had been a succession of unsuccessful ones!) to murder Thomas Arden at his home in Abbey Street was hatched in February 1551.  The landlord at the time was Adam Fowle who was cleared of any implication in the plot. The crime was dramatised in Arden of Faversham, a play published anonymously  in 1592 and still in the repertory.
