General Peel

The General Peel was situated on Mill Common. This pub was named after a 19th century MP for Huntingdon and closed in the 1960s. Present by 1869 when the publican was W.Scate, it was demolished in the 1970s, with a coach depot built on the site.
My grandfather played quoits for this pub. When this was demolished to make way for the town ring road the landlord, Joe Wainwright, held the workmen at bay with a shotgun.
Wendy Dighton (July 2011)
