The
Well was situated at 181 Stevenage Road. The
grade-II listed
building was originally the pest house hence its location on the outskirts
of town. When it was first a pub it was called The New Found Out. It was
renovated and named The Wishing Well initially before becoming The Well. |

Said to have been formerly the Pest
House. C17- C18 origin, red brick gabled north wing, modern south wing. The
north wing is of 2 storeys and attics with diagonal brick gables, band below
and carried over the upper storey window of the side elevations; tiled roofs
with gabled dormer on south east side. South gabled front has partly blocked
original window in gable, large upper storey window opening with cambered
head, partly filled in, band, window opening on ground floor. The north west
side has 2 very large blocked upper storey windows. |
