The
Nightingale was situated at 89
Nightingale Road. This pub
was present by 1859 and
closed in October 2015. Originally named the Leicester Junction Inn to
celebrate the Midland Railway's new (1857) main line from Leicester to
Hitchin, it was renamed in the 1960s when the Hitchin-Bedford section was
closed. The building has a fine terra cotta facade referring to Fordham's
brewery of Ashwell (taken over by Green's of Luton in 1952, itself absorbed
by Whitbread in 1962). |
