The Plough was
situated on Ware Road. Originally called The Worlds End, it was demolished
and rebuilt in 1935. Finally demolished in 1990, an office block called The
Rotunda stands on the site. |

Good memories of the "pluff" from the
early 70s where £2 would last all evening including beer, crisps, a
cheeseburger and a few plays on the jukebox. And free darts of course. 'Twas
a lad's pub, you wouldn't take a young lady you wished to impress there, not
even in the saloon. The landlord was a large jolly chap unlike a lot of his
ilk of the time especially if you had long hair.
There was a single screen cinema just down the road and so it was also handy
for a pre or post flick pint.
The Plough was of its time and would not have flourished into the
gastro-pub, yuppie bar era which Hertford was so keen to embrace. Just a
simple watering hole of the type which is all but forgotten now.
