The Boars Head was
situated at 30 High Street. This pub is
grade-II* listed
and dates from the late 16th century. It closed c2013 and reopened as a
restaurant in early 2017. |

Listed
building details: |
C15 and late C16 exposed timber
frame, altered C18 and early C19. Cement rendered ground floor, old red tile
steep-pitched roofs. Two and a half storeys. Nearly symmetrical street front
of 2 outer gable ends, jettied at first floor and centre gable in recessed
middle. Central door is flanked by quadrant bays with curved early C19 sash
windows. Canted C18 sash window bays beneath jetties, and C15 blocked 4
centre arch door on west ground floor. West first floor has diagonal and
curved timbers and original cusped bargeboard. Leaded oak mullioned window
centre first floor and blocked window to west; others modern leaded
casements. East elevation has C17 brick chimney stack with 3 diagonal
shafts, C18 sash and C19 casement windows. Interior. Ground floor open brick
fireplace with crenellated oak beam. Heaviest exposed timbers on west bay
which is oldest part of house. |
