The Railway Tavern was situated on
Castle Street and was almost part of the canal bridge structure. If you look
carefully from the Station Road side of the bridge you can see the remains
of the gents toilet. When the pub was demolished in the 1950’s it was
unclear if it was part of the pub or bridge so was left in situ. Effectively
dangling in mid air half way up the bridge wall. This is still visible
today, best seen in winter months when the vegetation has gone. |
