Queens Arms

The Queens Arms was situated at 53 High Street. This pub is now in residential use.
My parents used to live there In the 1980s, after it was converted to a house, probably in the 1970s. It used to be a Benskins Pub ( I remember the heraldic hanging sign stowed in the cellar, later lost to us). It’s an amazing house, the rafters in the roof were still untrimmed tree branches, with bark on! Nice cellar and tiny courtyard behind but no garden. A lovely big fireplace in the front room. People would sit on the front corner steps and eat their fish and chips, perhaps not realising it was now someone’s home, not a pub!
