The Hopton Arms when opened had all the necessary attributes to be an establishment of high standards and rank within its sector. However over the time good staff was hard to attract. The pub was never the problem here. This period building was very carefully refurbished by talented people and managed like a well oiled machine by John Groutage. I worked in this pub on the maintenance and initial refurbishment of which I enjoyed very much. I especially liked working alongside John who new the real potential of this place and indeed the trade. It baffles me that this pub didn't become a big award winning establishment. I feel very sad at the demise of the business. If I had the money I would buy the place tomorrow. Wedding receptions, family parties, business, tourists, locals and great food should have been pretty easy to do with the right people. What a shame !!!
