7 Water Lane. This pub was present by 1784 and closed c1954. Demolished as
part of a slum clearance scheme. |

The publican from 1930 to 1954 was
Frank Welch then he retired to live in an ex pub called Poulters Rests which
was in Lawn Street.The Fox was a lively pub during the war years with all
the our servicemen. UK and American plus others. One son qAreputed to have
fallen in the river behind the pub and was swept thro under the mill into
the weirs,apparently none the worse. |
