closed to make way for the extension of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

I used to go to The
Battery at lunch times in the 1970s. Best described as unpretentious, but
welcoming. There was a one-arm bandit style fruit machine, which could be
manipulated to pay out if you knew the technique. Much missed style of pub,
no fancy stuff and the atmosphere was welcome to everyone. |
