The Battery Inn was situated on Romsey Road. This pub closed in the late 1980s.

This pub was present by 1854. It closed to make way for the extension of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. The forecourt to the A&E Department occupies the site.

I used to go to The Battery at lunch times in the 1970s. Best described as unpretentious, but welcoming. There was a one-arm bandit style fruit machine, which could be manipulated to pay out if you knew the technique. Much missed style of pub, no fancy stuff and the atmosphere was welcome to everyone.

Christopher Perry 1960s onwards Customer and knew Harry Gollop and his wife who were barpeople for the Winchester Labour Party. Patients used to abscond from the hospital next door for an evening drink.
