Cider House Tavern

The Cider House Tavern was situated on Cider House Passage.

I was interested in finding information on this pub (and it's location, as I haven't been able to find Cider House Passage on any map) because my great-great-great-great-grandfather was landlord there. Joseph Watson, who was landlord from 1837 till 1840 (when he died) was born in Dublin, and married Catherine, a fellow Dubliner, producing at least two daughters and a son. One of the daughters, also Catherine, born 1813 (in Dublin) married William Merriman (a draper from Tenby, Wales) in Clifton, 1841, and the couple ran the Bank Tavern in John Street from 1841 to 1849. They were my great-great-great-grandparents, and both their sons were born at the Bank Tavern, in 1843 and 1846 respectively. William, the younger son, was my great-great-grandfather, and he died in Leeds, 1923.
Ralph William Merriman (January 2012).
