The Angel

When Nicholas Street was widened in 1864, the building on the corner of High Street (28) and the Angel Inn next door were pulled down. Although the Angel had only a 14 foot frontage in High Street, the establishment was L shaped and took up 35 feet of Nicholas Street.  On the site today is St.Nicholas House (Lloyds TSB).  This pub was present by 1792 when the publican was Steven Philips.
