When Nicholas Street was widened
in 1864, the building on the corner of High Street (28) and the Angel Inn
next door were pulled down. Although the Angel had only a 14 foot frontage
in High Street, the establishment was L shaped and took up 35 feet of
Nicholas Street. On the site today is St.Nicholas House (Lloyds TSB). This
pub was present by 1792 when the publican was Steven Philips. |
