The Two Fighting Cocks, or Fighting Cocks, is mentioned in
various records from 1732 to 1787. It had ceased to be a pub by 1787. It is
believed that Jeremy Bentham, founder of University College, London visited
here as a boy. |

Just to add to the theory that Jeremy Bentham visited as a
boy. I can confirm that his father, Jeremiah, owned property near the
Fighting Cocks in 1756. It is referred to in the address of the property
which he insured with Hand in Hand that year. I found it while I was looking
through the policy registers which we are currently digitizing. |
