The Kestrel was situated on Station
Road. |

Walked past this former pub the other day. Its
now a convenience store. The pub closed in 2008. I remember having a pint in
here one Wednesday lunchtime with my dad in 2002, before a Hartlepool United
v Hull City reserve game, that was played at the nearby Seaham Red Star
football ground.
There were around a dozen or so drinkers in the pub, it seemed to be very
much a locals pub, and doing ok. Pub closures were gathering speed at the
time, but we had no idea just how bad things were to become. I imagine The
Kestrel from this day on, limped on, before succumbing to what was probably
a slow lingering death. |
