The Village Inn was situated on Front Street. This pub was previously known as The Colliery Inn and was present by 1841 when the publican was Charles Hardy.
 
This large detached public house was closed in 2015 and stood empty for some time before being demolished in 2020.

Barnabas Hardy 1960s I sometimes used this pub in the 1960s. My father , Henry Hardy , attended his Woodworkers Union meetings every month in the 1950s and 1960s.
