Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway
line are trying to raise £100k from the public in order to lever an
additional £400k funding from the Lottery and the Community Grant Fund to
take them to the next stage of buying the property and turning the building
back into a hospitality venue, hopefully in time for the 200th anniversary
of it opening as the first ever railway station in the world. It closed as a
station in 1970, became a pub in 1984 which then closed in 2017, since when
it's been empty. |

The building has now been added to the Historic
England 'At Risk' Register. |
