Hogans was situated at 180 Victoria
Road. Originally built as a Temperance Hotel around the time of the building
of the Grade II* listed Darlington (Bank Top) Railway Station during the
Victorian Era, then becoming the Park Hotel, Hogan’s is to be demolished
from 30 Jan 2023 to make way for “safer and improved road arrangements” with
the major modifications to the Station, to be completed by 2025. Plans were
originally announced in June 2021 by Darlington Council, with the pub being
described as “landmark premises”, featuring a series of arches supported by
doric columns, and it was “considered a heritage asset because of its
historic location and external appearance”, and “having a considerable
significance in the context of Darlington”. Internally, however, it was of
little significance, and it was felt its demolition would improve the
situation of the station and the landscaping space provided would be ‘an
enhancement’. |
