The Clarence Villa Hotel was situated on the B6291. This pub was later renamed The Kicking Cuddy. Towards the end of its life it reverted back to the original Clarence Villa name for a brief period before being finally closed as a public house. It was opened in the 1850s and a by the mid-20th Century it was owned by Vaux Breweries of Sunderland. By June 2015 it was converted into an Italian restaurant named the Italian Farmhouse.
