The Chimneys Hotel was situated on East
Street. This pub was previously known as The Blackhall Trust Hotel. |
|
It only became known as Chimneys during the
1990s. When it first opened, I believed it was called the Station Hotel, as
the Blackhall Colliery railway station was just across the road from the
pub. It was a Whitbread pub. I used to often sleep in this pub in the mid
1970s, as my friend Michael's parents Sam and Maureen Heathcote ran the pub.
The pub was quite plush and very popular around this time. It was rumoured
that Michael Caine may have stayed in the pub during filming of Get Carter
in 1971, if not he certainly had a drink in there. |
