The Vulcan

The Vulcan was situated on Peel Street. This pub later became a cycle shop.
After the second war The Vulcan was the local for the terraced streets nearby and workmen in the fruit and veg wholesale warehouses including my grandfather's business G.C Young and motor garage firms of Peel St and Chester St. In the late 70s until the club got it's own club house it was the social HQ for Bishop Auckland Rugby Club of which my Welsh brother in law was a founder member. It was a real working man's pub of a kind long gone. It closed in the late 60s or early 70s.
