Sun Inn
|
Rebuilt Sun Inn at the Beamish
museum. |
|
|
The Sun Inn was situated on High
Bondgate. This pub was present by 1806 when it was known as The Tiger Inn.
It dismantled and re-built as a working pub at the
Beamish open air museum near Stanley. |

My mother, nee Dorothy Taylor, born and
brought up in High Bondgate, Bishop Auckland once told me that her father
used to wash the windows of The Sun Inn, for which he'd be paid in beer. As
a heavy drinker this was, presumably, a mutually satisfactory arrangement.
This would have been in the 1920s/1930s |
