The Leopard is
now converted into a private house called Leopard Cottage. It appears to
have been managed from 1809 by the Northover Family. Although in 1839 in the
Poor Law Rate it was called the Masons Arms. By the 1870s licensing was
being run by the petty sessions in Bridport. After problems with the family
running it, the house was owned by Job Legg of Bridport, he eventually
reported that he had got rid of the family and he no longer wished to renew
the license about 1884. Furthermore the Inn became notorious with ‘poachers
and rascals’ and this led to Legg’s reluctance to renew the license. |
