The London Inn was situated on West
Road. This pub is now used as a private dwelling. The above photo shows E
Company, 16th Regiment, US First Division outside the pub just before D-Day.
On the first wave at Omaha Beach, they suffered 70% casualties. |

Charlie Wills sang in this pub. His
songs were collected in 1946, and are available in notation form on the
EFDSS website the full English. He also made two recordings of Traditional
Dorset Songs. Please contact me with details of him singing at this pub. |

This pub was also a hotel. My husband and I had dinner at the
pub and stayed there for one night in August 1978. It had two or three rooms
upstairs. Charming pub! Sorry to hear it has closed… We are coming back to
England this summer (2022) and I would have loved to have visited. |
