Alan Knight 1973-1974 The Plymouth Sound Sub-Aqua Club used the "Phoenix". After an evening dive, we would adjourn to The Phoenix. It was a good pub, with Real Ale, used by the "Ladies of the Night" who plied their trade around Union Street, and who would use the pub to "freshen up" after 10 minutes in a bouncing car with steamed-up windows, and would loudly "compare notes" about their customers, to the amusement of the assembled drinkers!
