Spread Eagle

Date of photo: 2014

The Spread Eagle was situated on East Street. This pub closed in the 19th century and was then used as a dairy, before being converted to a house. Reputedly a coaching inn and 'bawdy house', it closed with the demise of the coach trade. The small window on the side of the pub was supposedly used to watch out for approaching stagecoaches.
