The Commercial Inn was situated on North Street and previously known as The
Freemasons Inn. This pub was closed in 1911
when a licensing review stated that there were seven licensed houses within
20 yards. It was purchased and used by the Liberal Club from 1912, and by
the army during WWII. Closed as the Liberal Club in the 1970s, it is now in
retail use. In the above photo it is the building on the left hand side with
the flagpole outside. |
