Star Inn

The Star Inn was situated at 105 Siddalls Road. This pub was present by 1857 when the publican was John Barnes.

My great-grandfather James Hudson, 1/1878 - 8/12/1951, was the publican at the Star Inn from approximately 1919 until the license was taken away from the premises (don’t know what date) & he moved to the Liverage Arms a short distance away.
According to my aunt, Audrie Critchley who died a few years ago, the Star Inn was very large and cold. The public bar had a lower brass rail for men to put their feet on while drinking. Spittoons, filled with sawdust, were scattered underneath the rails & tables. “Dreadful habit & horrible for those who had to clean them.” Outside at the back of the pub in the years was a kitty alley for the use of customers. The rooms were heated by open coal fires.
