A quote from the Derby Evening Telegraph by Ron Howard 'The pub wasn't very big. There was a bar and a sitting room, with a piano and we used to have a sing-song on Saturday and Sunday nights'.

In 1885 Mr Henry Dreher was the Landlord. He was summoned for keeping his licensed premises open at 11.25 at night on 30th December 1884. A Police constable named Atkins saw a woman with a jug and cigar in hand. She asked him for a light. Then he watched her go into the house and come out with a fresh drawn Beer. There was a fine of 40s and costs. There was another conviction for opening his premises on 31st May 1885 which was a Sunday. This time he was fined £5 or a months imprisonment.
