Rising Sun

The Rising Sun was situated on Sun Lane. This pub is now used as a private house.

There was a large family by the name of Wragg living in Crich in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The family consisted of Mother, Father and, I think, four sons. Now, all four sons were in the Fire Brigade in Crich. Crich had a fire engine and a fire station, and all the firemen (I don’t know how many) were volunteers. Quite often, when all four brothers were drinking in the Rising Sun, a call would come through, via a beeper, to scramble the fire engine. The four brothers always lined up at the bar but when the call came, every one of them would bang down their glasses in unison, tear out and run down the road for a short distance and off on the engine. I lived in Fritchley in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and married in 1971. Fritchley is a little village around half a mile away so I walked to the pub whenever I could.
The pub itself was lovely but was in effect a drinkers pub and not particularly a ‘bring the family’ pub. I loved it. It didn’t have sawdust on the floor though.
