The Crown & Cushion was situated on Low
Pavement. This pub was rebuilt in the 1930s and closed in the 1980s. It was
later renamed to Joplins and Barrow Boy. The publican in 1899 was John Burcher. |

It has now reopened as The Crown & Cushion
again. |

My uncle and aunty kept the pub when
the bubble car murderer Michael Copeland used to frequent it.Detectives used
to play dominoes with Copeland trying to trick him into confessing his
guilt. He eventually confessed to his crimes and l think he was sentenced to
hang but later reprieved to life imprisonment. |
