Indian King

The Indian King was situated at 51 Roper Street. This grade-II listed building was built c1770. Recorded in the 'Cumberland Chronicle' of 1777 for the sittings of the Bankruptcy Commissioners and for the sale of tickets for the Roper Street 'Theatre Royal', also for being the first Inn in the town to have flush toilets installed in the 1850's. Now trading as Mason's, electrical retailer.
