This pub was closed in April 1972 and
demolished shortly afterwards. The Landlord from June 1953 until closure was
Alexander Todhunter and the Landlady, his wife, Elsie Robina. The pub was
closed for town centre "redevelopment" and not for commercial reasons as is
common these days. The pub was very small but had a loyal following with a
strong community spirit. The pub was owned by Jennings Brewery of
Cockermouth with delivery on a Friday afternoon and leaves us with wonderful
memories of such times. |

I’m reading a book about a very
courageous man called Harry Barnes Jackson. The book is titled “ The Music
Maker “ by Jaci Byrne. He lived above the pub until he died in
1964. |
