My grandmother Priscilla Hind, was the
youngest of three daughters raised by widow, Lydia Hind, who operated the
Pub and lived upstairs with the three girls. The oldest daughter, Mary Hind
(then Dobinson), was later to become the mayoress of Carlisle. Her grandson,
Thomas Dobinson lives near London. The second daughter, Sarah, married
Charles May (a valet) and is buried in the Carlisle cemetery. She had no
children. My grandmother Priscilla emigrated to Canada in 1921 and married
my grandfather, William Robert Bond, also from Carlisle who had previously
emigrated to Canada around 1915.
My grandmother was employed in a clerical position in Edinburgh, possibly
the munitions factory. She commuted by train daily to her position there. My
grandparents ultimately ultimately moved to Portland Oregon, USA where they
resided until the time of their deaths. My grandfather, William R. Bond Sr.
in 1981 and my grandmother in 1983. |
