The White Lion was situated on High
Cross Street. |
|
Grade II Listed in 1984 as the White Lion Hotel
is was probably originally 2 early 18th century houses. It is marked on the
OS map as Roman Edge House but that represents only the eastern (right)
section to just past the first doorway. The remaining section is now
Brampton Medical Practice White Lion Surgery and residential apartment. The
pub stood empty from 2015 when it closed after a short time as an Indian
restaurant. Purchased by a well known local couple in 2017, it was converted
to its present layout around 2019-20. The listing informs us it was the
White Lion in 1790 and a search of my directories found; 1847 Joseph
Armstrong; 1858-1873 John Dodd (& cabinet maker); 1894 James Moffat; 1897
George & Luna Moffat; 1906 Tom A Riddell (& Kings Arms Inn); 1910 Tom A
Riddell; 1914 William Spooner. |
