building details: |
Public House. Probably late C17 or
early C18, remodelled and extended probably early C19. Serpentine and elvan
rubble with dressed granite sills, dressed granite lintel band over ground
floor openings, and the 1st floor and extension, left, have dressed granite
quoins and jambs and shallow brick arches. Scantle slate roof sweeping lower
to rear. Brick chimneys over original gable ends but roof extended over
left-hand
hipped end. Plan probably originally 2 rooms with hall/kitchen right with
large fireplace and parlour left with cross or through passage between. In
the C19 rebuilt above ground to 1st floor, extended with service rooms under
outshut at rear and by one room wide, double-depth addition at the left hand
side. 2 storeys. Overall regular 3-window south-west front. The original
2-window front right is symmetrical with central doorway with panelled door.
16-pane sashes which, except for lst floor far left and ground floor right,
are circa early C19 hornless sashes. On the right hand side is a 4-step
rubble mounting block with dressed
granite steps. Interior has C19 ceiling beams but the large fireplace in the
right hand room and the complex moulded remnant of pine muntin and plank
partition on the right hand side of the passage are possibly C17. |
