The Ups & Downs was situated on Wellington Road South and was previously known as The Wellington Inn.

This very large pub was owned by Burtonwood Brewery (near Warrington) in the early 1980's, but did not offer traditional beer. The name stems from the dual level layout, with the higher level Wellington Road South entrance shown in the picture, while there was a lower level with an entrance to Mersey Square to the rear.
