The Junction Inn was situated at 150 Ashton
Road. Converted from a private house in 1874 by my great grandfather, Rolla
Oldham, who brewed and sold his own beer. I still have his diaries and
notebooks from the 1870s complete with neat drawings of the bar and seating
details and his bills of materials. He kept a portrait of Queen Victoria
behind the bar. On the news of the Battle of Rorke’s Drift he draped the
entire bar in black as a mark of respect. Now returned to a private
residence, following closure c2004. |

I used to frequent this pub in the 80’s. It used to have
the gents toilets outside at the rear. Funny in the winter trying to
have a wee in the snow. |
