Buck Inn

The Buck Inn was situated on Muslin Street (now 177 Talbot Road). This pub closed in the 1920s and has now been converted into flats.
I have a postcard in my collection addressed to the writer’s aunt, a “Mrs E. Harrison, Buck Inn, Newton Moor, Hyde”. It’s postmarked “Rowsley” and dated January 13th 1905
The writer “Annie” apologises to her aunt for the long delay in writing saying “..I have but little time for myself..”. Her sense of being overworked is carried through by the choice of picture postcard which depicts a miserable looking Cornish Fishwife with a large wicker basket dominating her appearance - a human beast of burden. Sardonic female humour methinks.
