Located halfway down West Street on the junction with Underwood Lane, the Lion and Swan was first threatened with closure in August 2007 when plans were unveiled to build seven homes on the site. The pub remained open until sadly, there was a fire on Saturday 8th December 2009 and the front windows have been boarded up. From the rear you can see that plenty of internal damage was done. Due to the fire the pub was demolished on 5th June 2010 and the land is currently up for sale.

Calum Robertson 2003  I worked here for nearly a year firstly for a bloke called Duke, and latterly a chap called Pete Bowles from Manchester. I'd love to get hold of Pete ae we lost touch over the years I'm afraid. Was a great wee pub in its day.
Ian Bell 1991-1996 I was the pub landlord there between 1991 and 1996 with Iola Hughes who very sadly  passed away a few years ago. RIP Iola. It was a fantastic pub in it's day and still have some unforgettable memories.
