Nags Head

Nags Head, Amersham

This name usually indicates that at one time livery stables were attached to the pub. Described by some as one of Amersham few remaining drinkers pubs, the Nag's head was closed in September 2006 to be converted into a restaurant.

This was one of the half a dozen or so pubs in the area owned by Wethered's of Marlow who were effectively a tiny outpost of the sprawling Whitbread empire. As was typical of the pubs owned by the 'Big Six' in those days, improvements and maintenance were kept to a minimum and the pub drifted downhill becoming a complete anachronism in affluent Amersham Old Town. It closed its doors for good in 2006 and the building is now a chain-owned pizza restaurant.
