The Shades was situated on Gun Street. This pub was open in the 1850s and closed in the 1950s. Since then it has been in restaurant use, currently being a Tandoori restaurant.

It was a café in the early sixties, a favourite of the various sixth formers of the day - for me 1963/4. For me a “must” of a Saturday morning,
